LL.M. International and European Law

Programme overview

The LL.M. International and European Law is a full-time professional postgraduate programme offering to all participants the opportunity to gain in-depth specialized knowledge of International and EU law. After the successful completion of the course, students are awarded the degree Master of Laws (LL.M.).

The programme normally includes one intensive year of regular on-site courses (from end of September till end of June) and a third term (from September to December of the subsequent year), which is dedicated to the completion of LL.M. final paper.

The tuition is held by experienced full-tenured academics as well as experts from partner universities and various international institutions.

Target group

Graduates (lawyers in training, PhD candidates), who wish to expand their knowledge in International and European law and recieve a sound legal training in this areas for an international career.

Professionals with practical legal experience wishing to extend their theoretical understanding in International and European law.

Admission requirements

Completed university degree (minimum Bachelor) from a recognized tertiary institution in law or similar field of study, e.g. international relations, European studies, economics, political science.

The LLM applications are processed on a rolling basis until 31 August 2024.

2. Together with filling in the online application form, upload and submit the following documents:

  • Structured Curriculum Vitae (signed)
  • Certified copy of minimum Bachelor´s degree diploma in law or similar field of study
  • Proof of English language competence (CERF level B2) to be proven by English language certificates (TOEFL, IELTS, CAE, CPE) or documents about previous university studies in English language. Please note that TOEFL and IELTS certificates cannot be older than 2 years, CAE and CPE certificates cannot be older than 4 years.
  • Motivation Letter (max. 500 words) describing mainly your academic interest in the LL.M. programme and what you want to achieve through studying in the programme.
  • Letter of Recommendation– we recommend that the letter is from persons that are able to give a judment on your academic qualities and potential (e.g. (e.g. former university lecturers). The letter must be written explicitly for the LL.M. program application. The document must include: date of issue, name, institution, position, signature, official stamp (if available) and contact details (phone number and email) of the person/institution recommending you.
  • Copy of valid passport or European ID card – a photocopy of the page with a photograph and personal data

The certified copy of diploma (accompanied by a certified translation to Czech or English, if not originally in one of these languages) must be submitted by 31 August 2024 also as officially authenticated hard copy by regular mail to:

Curriculum

In order to receive the LL.M. degree, you will have to obtain 90 credits. 40 credits will be awarded for the completion of obligatory courses (each course is 10 credits), 20 credits can be obtained by completing 4 elective courses (each elective course is 5 credits). The remaining 30 credits have to be obtained by completing the final paper seminar (5 credits) and successfull defence of the final paper (25 credits).

Language of instruction

The language of instruction in this programme is English.

Applicants will have to demonstrate sufficient English language skills. Non-native speakers and applicants whose first law degree program was not taught in English are required to provide a proof of advanced English language proficiency (TOEFL, IELTS, Cambridge Certificate).

3 semesters (2 semesters full-time courses + 1 semester final paper writing)

Participants will get awarded with 90 credits for the whole programme (40 credits for obligatory courses, 20 credits for elective courses and 30 credits for final thesis).
